What’s on in ’The Wood’
A warm welcome at the DUKE OF YORK PUB
The ‘We Love You’ sign says it all.
The Duke of York pub in St. Ann’s Terrace, just around the corner from the High Street, has been a local landmark since 1826 and is still a welcoming hostelry now. Managed by Brendon for more than 15 years together with his friendly team, he attracts loyal locals and an international clientele from as far afield as Japan and the USA. The pub buzzes at lunchtime as St. John’s Wood mothers and local businessmen gather to drink and eat in these authentic surroundings. And when there are important games at Lord’s Cricket Club, it is the must-go-to destination.
This is not a pub which has suffered the cool refit of many pubs in recent years – it retains all the character that Brendon saw worked so well when he was publican at The Garrick in Covent Garden and The Bar du Marché in Berwick Street, Soho. He takes great pride in the food he serves and doesn’t shy away from traditional English pub fare and themed evenings – the burger night, the steak night, Sunday lunch and quiz nights. A recent quiz raised £4,500 for a good cause!
